Weekend frolics
At the weekend I went for a little jaunt to Haut Bay in the car, and then the next day climbed up and down mountains to view the same beach from way above! I am a bit concerned about my fitness levels as I was rather slow, and am still aching, but the gorgeous fynbos plants were a wonderful distraction from the punishing ascents!
Montagu
A couple of weeks ago now I went to the sweetest small town called Montagu, about two hours' drive from Cape Town, and went mad taking photos of houses with Dutch gables, and other visual treats.
Montagu is nestled in amongst the most stunning mountains, and there are plenty of walks (and horse riding treks (mine ended in tragedy - I fell off 5 mins in!) to enjoy. There are also hot springs. So lovely!

100 in 1 Day Cape Town

For the last few weeks I've been involved in the Cape Town 100 in1 Day project, a community-led day of 100 or more brilliant social interventions spanning the city. The organisers are the loveliest and liveliest bunch. Each session starts with a group shout of 'One hundreedddddddddddddd, IN ONE!". It's exciting stuff, not least because of the impact on local neighbourhoods this umbrella event promotes.
This month's event takes place on October 26th. It will include, among many, many others, the painting of Kleinvlei skate park, free Wi-fi hotspot in Khayelitsha township, building a mountain bike park in Vredehoek plantation, and various sports and educational activities at Khayelitsha Kukhanyile Primary School.

Trees please
I like that when you go to somewhere new, all the little mundane parts of an environment seem to take on new meaning in their subtle differences to your own. Here the trees have a different look, sometimes contorted by the wind, known as the Cape Doctor, blowing away dirt from the city in a particularly south-easterly direction. Whatever the shapes and colours, it's a beautifully green lung of place thanks to these natural forms.

Natural History
This week I visited the South African Natural History Museum, and it was incredible. What a collection, just amazing to look at, and even better as you're allowed to photograph. Some were plastic replicas, especially the fish (would be a bit smelly if not I imagine), but the stuffed animals were breathtaking, albeit a little upsetting. Standing next to an adult hippo and being able to see its huge teeth, and seeing a stuffed African elephant killed over a hundred years ago within touching distance was bizarre.
Anyway, it's the kind of place you could visit again and again, but these were a few snaps I collected on the day. So many furry, tentacled, boney, beaky things to see!
